Palm Beach, Florida is a unique community in certain ways. The area is renowned for its lush, tropical greenery and home to the rich and fabulous. Keeping up with the Jones’s is taken up a notch and it means that a lot of attention is paid to landscaping.
As a matter of fact, the Town of Palm Beach uses 2.6 billion gallons of water per year – with estimates that 80% or so is used for landscaping. Single family residences use an average of 1,400 gallons of water per day or six times the state average.
The Kind of Irrigation System Matters
That makes the choice of irrigation systems crucial, a fact that’s been recognized by a an ordinance that favours advanced residential irrigation systems.
Property owners who install a town-approved system that’s based on water efficiency – a high-tech irrigation system that monitors weather and/or soil data and adjusts the irrigation schedules accordingly – are exempt from the ‘every other day’ watering rule.
As the Town Council recognizes, advanced systems use far less than conventional irrigation systems – up to 40% to 60% less than systems that are set strictly according to a time schedule. Despite the wet season so far, a drought cycle is still expected later in the summer.
Palm Beach Confidential:
The ordinance is set for a second reading in August. One particular detail remains to be decided: whether or not the homeowners would have to sport a sign on the lawn that indicates they’re using a smart water irrigation system. Many feel that the signs would be too unsightly.
You don’t need to live in an affluent neighbourhood to appreciate the need for water conservation – and saving money too. With today’s wild fluctuations in precipitation, smart water systems are the effective answer to fluctuating water needs.
At Future Green Irrigation, we stay right on top of the latest and best information and products so that we can give you the best advice and service.
• We design residential sprinkler systems with water conservation and efficiency in mind. This means your system is sustainable, ensuring availability of water for future generations and energy conservation in the water pumping, delivery and wastewater processing. Homeowners find their water bill goes down even as their green space becomes more full, vibrant and lush.
• We believe in and install Hunter, Rainbird and Toro systems because they’re at the cutting edge of irrigation technology. The latest systems use technology which can detect soil and weather conditions so that it provides just the right amount of irrigation at just the right time, taking all the guesswork out of it. All you have to do is set the switch to ‘on’.
